Paper has a unique beauty; its secret is in the
fibers. With paper Sherri can create many different
moods with different edges. Sometimes she wants
a soft natural deckle edge, a torn and jagged edge
or a clean cut, sharp edge. Sometimes the paper
leads her into a new direction. With paper she can
work quickly putting down or removing layers to
sketch out her designs. Living in an Alaskan temperate
rain forest has also affected her process. Just
as, the shifting clouds covers the mountains and
the ocean tides flow in and out onto the beach,
creating layers of landscape, Sherri is inspired
to recreate that beauty. She uses many layers of
decorative and hade made papers to meticulously
pieces them together until she sees Alaska come
alive in her art. This is why she calls her art
Paper Landscapes.
